A Nerdy Art Project

Designed to capture a sampling of the universe of queer in periodic table form, the categories and elements were chosen to represent a wide range of experience.

Similar to the ones used in science classrooms, it plays with the learned nature of scientific elements in school – what is possible, how to categorize, and how to memorize what is considered essential.

Since the first iteration in the Fall of 2010, the table has continued to develop. Some elements were moved around, and others were deleted or added based on feedback from the many people who have interacted with it.

Partial proceeds from sales of the Project’s artifacts (posters, buttons, magnets, colouring books, etc) will be donated to Out in Schools, a Vancouver organisation that “engages youth through film in the promotion of safe and diverse learning environments, free from homophobia and bullying”.

A summary of the exhibitions and media coverage of the project can be found on the Project CV page.
